How it relates to the Australian Dietary Guidelines (ADG);
You may think the Lemon Detox is “healthy” as it consumes very few ingredients, allowing you to be able to loose weight quickly, however it barely even meets the five ADG. The Detox on average provides the body with 800-1000 kcal per-day (Nutrition Research 35, pp 410) compared to the recommended average of 2000-2500 kcal. This means that your body will be severely depleted of energy and will begin to slow the rate at which energy is burned allowing the fat to remain stored in the body conserving its energy rather than braking it down.
The Lemon detox does not relate to choosing various amounts of nutritious foods from the given groups, or limits foods containing saturated fats, added salts, sugars and alcohol as it only contains one real food item and that is lemon! Giving you very poor consumption across the 5 categories that will cause serious deficiencies for the body. its organic maple syrup however can consist of high sugar levels causing it to breech the ADG.
One lemon provides 24 calories; (7.8g carbs, 0.3g fat, 0.9g protein and 2.4g of dietary fibre) (Top 7 Benefits of Lemon Nutrition. n.d.) which will cause a rapid deficiency across ones diet by simply not proving any where near enough nutrients. With a body full of deficiencies, it will be unable to perform its normal functions effectively causing one to feel even worse than they did prior to this diet. By eliminating all the essential nutrients needed to function the 14 day period can be seen to be severely distressing on all major organs causing one to become evidently ill.
